Papp Dániel

Dániel Papp, as CEO of MTVA, became the face of the Hungarian public broadcaster's transformation into a government propaganda vehicle. He had previously drawn attention for manipulative editing practices, and under his leadership MTVA pursued a systematic pattern of broadcasting Kremlin-aligned narratives following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, while giving virtually no platform to the Ukrainian perspective. Media expert Gábor Polyák publicly called on the president of the Media Council to put an end to Russian propaganda in public media and to remove Papp from his position. The broadcaster he leads also signed a content agreement in 2024 with a hardline Chinese Communist Party propaganda channel, making MTVA a conduit for authoritarian messaging from multiple foreign state sources simultaneously.
